Iran Arrests 2 World Cup Fans over Celebratory Video

TEHRAN, June 23 (UPI) — Iranian officials have reportedly arrested two World Cup fans who recorded a YouTube video of themselves singing and dancing to a song by London-based band Ajam, “Gole Iran,” in tribute to the country’s soccer team.

The state-run IRNA agency said Monday that Police Chief Col. Rahmatollah Taheri described the video as “vulgar.”

In a similar incident last month, Iranian authorities arrested six people for participating in the worldwide “Happy” video trend.

Tehran residents had uploaded a YouTube clip of themselves dancing to Pharrell Williams’ infectious pop hit. The city’s police chief reportedly claimed that the “obscene” clip had “offended the public morals.”
