Rescuers Free 3 Trapped Honduran Miners, 8 Still Missing

The moment they had all been waiting for. Rescue workers pull out three miners trapped in an illegal gold mine in southern Honduras. They emerged, weakened and disorientated but alive. 

The men had been cut off inside the tunnel since Wednesday when a landslide caused the entrance to the San Juan Arriba mine to collapse. 

GREEN CROSS RESCUER, NOE MEMBRENO, SAYING: “Thanks to God we are very happy that we could rescue three people alive. The three miners are on their way to an assistance centre for a check up and see if they are injured. Then we are going to continue, we are going to organise ourselves again to go down and continue with the search for the eight remaining people.” It’s not known whether the eight remaining miners are still alive but this rescue has rekindled hopes.
