Saudi Arabia Tests Man Suspected of Having Ebola

RIYADH, Saudi Arabia (AP) — The Saudi Health Ministry says it is testing a man for the Ebola virus after he showed symptoms of the viral hemorrhagic fever following a recent trip to Sierra Leone.

The ministry said that the 40-year-old Saudi man showed the symptoms Tuesday at a hospital in the western city of Jiddah and is in critical condition. It says the cause of his sickness is unknown, but that Ebola cannot be ruled out.

The ministry says different types of viral hemorrhagic fevers are found in the kingdom, but that no case of Ebola has yet been detected in the country.

Saudi Arabia earlier this year said it would not issue visas this year for religious pilgrims from Sierra Leone, Liberia and Guinea because of concerns over Ebola.
