On August 9 a tweet sent with the hashtag #AMessagefromISIStoUS shows someone holding a piece of paper with Arabic writing in front of the Old Republic Building in Chicago.
The Old Republic Building is located “at the corner of Michigan and South Water Street.”
WGNtv.com reports the message on the paper as, “Soldiers of the Islamic state of Iraq and Syria will pass from here soon.” The message is dated “20 June, 2014.”
The text of the tweet adds: “We are in your state, We are in your cities, We are in your streets.” Other tweets say, “we are here #america near our #target…sooooooooooooon.”

Security in the Old Republic Building would not comment to WGN regarding the tweets, nor would “the Secret Service, the FBI, or the Chicago Police.”
And while the validity of the apparent threat contained in the tweet has not been confirmed, it should be noted that August 9 – the day the tweet was sent – was also the day on which the U.S. began airstrikes against ISIS positions around Mt. Sinjar.
Moreover, Chicago is President Obama’s city, and Obama has been the target of Islamic State vitriol since the airstrikes commenced.
For example, when a video of American journalist James Foley being beheaded was released on August 19, a central message in it was that the killing was a result of the U.S. airstrikes ordered by Obama. The Islamic State pledged further attacks on Americans if the strikes don’t stop.
IS also released a video carrying the same hashtag as the Chicago tweet, #AMessagefromISIStoUS. In it they addressed Americans by saying, “We will drown all of you in blood.”
