Best and Worst Reactions to the Paris Terror Attacks

The world’s reaction to the shootings of 12 people at the Charlie Hebdo offices in Paris – and the world’s lack of reaction to the shooting of four people at a kosher supermarket the next day – have filled the news for days. Some of those reactions have been inspirational; others have demonstrated the self-destruct tendency at the heart of the Western post-modern mindset; and some are just plain tone deaf. Here are the best and worst reactions to the Paris terror attacks:

French President Told Israeli PM Netanyahu Not To Attend Paris Rally

French President Francois Hollande told his counterpart, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, not to attend the Paris rally in the wake of the jihadist attacks against Charlie Hebdo and the Jewish market last week, for fear that the Israeli PM’s presence might upset those troubled with his stance on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Saudi Fatwa: No Snowmen!

A Saudi religious authority, Mohamed Saleh Al Minjed, issued a fatwa (religious edict) that making snowmen or snow animals is not compliant with the teachings of Islam. Supporters of the fatwa said that even if the snow creations are created out of good fun, they must be rejected, because it is what people in corrupted Western cultures do. Al Minjed said only figures without a “soul,” such as structures, food, or vehicles, can be recreated with snow.

France’s Elite Anti-Israel Hatred Fueled Muslim Antisemitism

On Sunday, at the Grand Synagogue in Paris, some of the loudest applause at a memorial for four Jews killed by Islamic terrorists in a kosher supermarket came when one of the speakers reminded President François Hollande that there is no difference between “Death to the Jews!” and “Death to Israel!” For years, the French elite has pretended it can tolerate the latter without encouraging the former. That attitude is what allowed French antisemitism to flourish like an evil weed.

Jake Tapper: I’m Ashamed by U.S. Leaders’ Absence in Paris

“Thank you,” said the man. I was standing outside of the offices of Charlie Hebdo covering the aftermath of the terrorist attacks for CNN. He was thanking me just for being here, just for covering the event and its aftermath, what Le Monde referred to as France’s September 11. And his appreciation was echoed by French citizen after French citizen.

Why Obama Watched Football Instead of Going to Paris

After sitting out the “#HandsUpDontShoot” and “#BlackLivesMatter” demonstrations, Obama and Holder were not going to be caught on camera attending a “#JeSuisCharlie” rally in Paris, no matter how many other world leaders were going to be there in solidarity with the French people, with the Jewish people, or with freedom of expression in general.

Pope Denounces Jihad as ‘Deviant Forms of Religion’

In his yearly address to the Vatican Diplomatic Corps on Monday, Pope Francis decried the breakdown of society “spawning violence and death.” Referencing the “tragic slayings which took place in Paris,” Francis blamed enslavement to “deviant forms of religion.” This fundamentalism, Francis said,

China is Exporting Deflation to Europe

China’s Producer Price Index (PPI) that measures the price changes for the goods and services produced by the nation has fallen for 32 straight months. As the factory to the world, China has been exporting deflation. The economic impact has been increasing the real burden of debt, driving down worldwide wages and discouraging consumption.
