NORTHFIELD CENTER, Ohio (AP) — A mother and her young daughter are dead and two other people remain unaccounted for after a house explosion in northeast Ohio.
The explosion happened Monday night in Northfield Center Township.
Fire Chief Frank Risko says the bodies of the mother and child were found on the first floor of the home. The father and another young daughter are still missing. Authorities have not identified the victims.
Risko says firefighters must wait until steam from the explosion clears before they can conduct a more thorough search of the property.
Neighbors reported hearing a blast around 8:30 p.m. It shook nearby homes.
Emergency responders arrived on the scene and saw flames shooting from the home.
It’s unclear what caused the explosion. The investigation is ongoing.
