2 Israelis shot and wounded near West Bank shrine

HEBRON, West Bank (AP) — Israel’s military says two Israelis were shot and wounded at a West Bank holy site sacred to Jews and Muslims.

The military says the shooting took place in the center of the Palestinian West Bank city of Hebron, where Israeli troops patrol a zone under their sole control to guard 850 Jewish settlers.

The military says troops are searching the area near the shrine where tradition says biblical patriarchs and matriarchs are buried.

Israeli media reported that the shots were fired from a distance.

Tensions have been running high in Hebron during the current round of Israeli-Palestinian violence.
