PHILADELPHIA (AP) - The oldest son of Philadelphia Eagles coach Andy Reid has entered a drug-treatment program amid charges he injured a woman in a traffic accident while under the influence of heroin. Garrett Reid, 23, a community-college student who lives at his parents' home in Villanova, was arraigned Friday on the misdemeanor assault, drug possession and other charges.

Andy Reid was not in court, but planned to accompany his son back to the out-of-state treatment facility after the hearing in Plymouth Township, lawyer Ross Weiss said.

Garrett Reid was charged Thursday with 14 misdemeanor and summary offenses stemming from the

crash in suburban Philadelphia on Jan. 30. The charges came just days after his father took a leave of absence from the team to deal with family matters.

Also Friday, another son, 21-year-old Britt Reid, waived his preliminary hearing over an encounter that same day in which he allegedly pointed a gun at another motorist.

Britt Reid faces a felony charge of carrying a firearm without a license as well as misdemeanor charges that include assault and possession of a controlled substance. His lawyer, William Winning, did not immediately return a message Friday.

Garrett Reid struck a car driven by a 55-year-old woman who suffered back strain and a head laceration, authorities said.

Police found syringes with heroin and testosterone in his Jeep, and he acknowledged that he had used heroin that day and the anabolic steroid in the past, according to court papers. Police said they also found a variety of pills in the vehicle, including amphetamines and Escitalopram, which is used to treat depression.

Garrett Reid was released on $25,000 unsecured bail Friday, with the condition that he complete the treatment program, court officials said. He waived his right to a preliminary hearing and is next due in court on April 14 for formal arraignment.

Both cases are being prosecuted by the state Attorney General's office at the request of Montgomery County District Attorney Bruce Castor, who has campaign ties to the defense lawyers' firm.
