3 terrorist suspects killed in Paris police raid

PARIS, Nov. 18 (UPI) — Three suspects in the Friday terrorist attacks on Paris were killed during a police raid in the Paris suburb of Saint Denis early Wednesday, French police said.

Heavily armed police and soldiers raided an apartment in Saint Denis targeting the alleged mastermind of the attack, among others. A civilian was shot and killed and three police officers were injured during the raid. Five others were arrested.

Multiple explosions and gunfire were heard as truckloads of soldiers and police closed in on the building, located in the same district as the Stade de France, where suicide bombers struck on Friday.

Public transportation was shut down in the area and residents were told to stay inside.

The main target of the raid was Abdelhamid Abaaoud, police said. Abaaoud is suspected of being the mastermind of the attacks that killed 129 people. The Islamic State –also called ISIS or ISIL– have claimed responsibility for the attack.

One of the suspects blew herself up and one of the other suspects was shot and killed by a police sniper. It is not known how the third suspect died.

“I’ve been hearing gunshots continuously, like fireworks,” resident Benson Hoi told the BBC. “There have been some breaks but to me it sounds like continuous gunshots.”
