GARLAND, Texas, Dec. 26 (UPI) — Four are confirmed dead and several more injured after tornadoes swept through the greater Dallas, Texas, area Saturday.
Officials told ABC News there was also a great deal of property damage, however specifics were not yet available.
The National Weather Service issued tornado watches for 49 Texas counties Saturday afternoon, including Dallas County.
Saturday evening, a “large and extremely dangerous” tornado was reported near Glenn Heights, Texas, just south of Dallas. Forecasters call the conditions “life-threatening” saying that some mobile homes in the area “will be destroyed.” “Considerable damage to homes,” and “complete destruction is possible.”
Multiple tornadoes were reported in the greater Dallas area Saturday evening, however, no damage or casualties have been reported in the city of Dallas itself.
The storms are part of a series of tornadoes ravaging the south this week. Six people were killed in Tennessee and one in Arkansas, bringing the total death toll to 17. Mississippi officials reported 60 storm-related casualties, and Mississippi Gov. Phil Bryant issued a disaster declaration Thursday.
