CLEVELAND, Miss., Sept. 14 (UPI) — An active shooter killed a professor at Delta State University in Cleveland, Miss., prompting the school to issue lockdown orders on Monday.
“Delta State University has confirmed one fatality,” Delta State University said in a statement. “Campus remains under lockdown. Please stay inside and away from windows.”
Cleveland police confirmed the active shooter event and were assisting Delta State police, adding that one victim was taken by ambulance.
It’s unclear if the victim transported by ambulance was the fatality confirmed by the school.
The shooter was still at large, police said. The shooting was reported near the school’s Jobe Hall.
Mississippi Highway Patrol, Cleveland police and Bolivar County Sheriff’s Department were on campus.
