TUNICA, Miss. (AP) — Authorities say a plane carrying actor Morgan Freeman and his pilot blew a tire on takeoff from a Mississippi airport and had to make an emergency landing in which its landing gear collapsed and the plane ran off the side of a runway. No one was hurt.
Clarksdale Mayor Bill Luckett, a longtime friend, says the twin-engine plane made a controlled forced landing at the Tunica airport Saturday — shortly after takeoff from the Clarksdale area airport nearby.
Freeman says he was headed to Texas to shoot a segment for the series, “The Story of God.”
“Sometimes things don’t go as planned and a tire blew on takeoff, which caused other problems,” his statement says, adding the two “landed safely without a scratch.”
“I cannot say the same about my plane,” he added.
