Adam Sandler’s ‘The Ridiculous Six’ named Netflix’s most successful movie launch

LOS GATOS, Calif., Jan. 7 (UPI) — Despite being panned by critics, Adam Sandler’s latest comedy, The Ridiculous Six has become the most-watched new release in Netflix history.

The film, a Netflix exclusive that launched on the streaming service on Dec. 11, currently holds a 0% rating on review aggregator site Rotten Tomatoes.

The low scores however have not kept audiences away according to Netflix’s chief content officer Ted Sarandos. “The Ridiculous 6, by way of example, in the first 30 days on Netflix it’s been the most-watched movie in the history of Netflix,” Sarandos said to Entertainment Weekly Wednesday during the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.

“It’s also enjoyed a spot at No. 1 in every territory we operate in, and in many of them it’s still No. 1,” he continued.

Netflix admits that the high streaming numbers seen for The Ridiculous Six include the company’s original film division and licensed movie titles that appear on their service. The Ridiculous Six is only the first of four films that Sandler signed on for in his new deal with the streaming giant.

Recently, Netflix expanded its outreach to an additional 130 countries making its content available worldwide except China, Syria, Crimea and North Korea.
