LOS ANGELES (AP) — Adrian Gonzalez has homered three times for the Los Angeles Dodgers in their series finale against the San Diego Padres.
His third homer leading off the fifth inning on Wednesday night extended their lead to 6-2. All three came off Padres starter Andrew Cashner.
Gonzalez homered in the first and again leading off the third.
It’s the first three-homer game of the 32-year-old first baseman’s career. Gonzalez is the first Dodger to hit three in a game since teammate Juan Uribe did so against Arizona on Sept. 9, 2013.
Gonzalez has hit five homers in the first three games of the season. He’s the third player in franchise history to homer in his first three games, joining Jimmy Wynn in 1974 and Carl Furillo in 1955.
