ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. (AP) — A rematch between two New Jersey high school baseball teams after a 49-point blowout earlier this month has ended with a closer score.
Buena defeated Pleasantville on Thursday, 20-2. The game came four weeks after Buena had defeated Pleasantville, 52-3.
Buena coach Harry Grose told NJ.com (http://bit.ly/1Q33zi5 ) that he was worried about the rematch Thursday between his defending state-champion team and Pleasantville in Atlantic City.
Pleasantville’s coach, Erick McAllister, told the Press of Atlantic City after the first loss that his team never quit and that the Buena players were gentlemen in the win.
A 10-run mercy rule for New Jersey high school baseball games doesn’t kick in until the fifth inning.
