Andrea Bocelli and Juanes scheduled to perform for Pope Francis

PHILADELPHIA, June 24 (UPI) — Andrea Bocelli and Juanes are set to serenade Pope Francis at the World Meeting of Families on Sept. 26 in Philadelphia.

Along with the two vocal powerhouses, the Philadelphia Orchestra will be on hand at the triennial event, which is held to “strengthen family bonds globally.”

“Our most important mission in this voyage of life is learning how to love, and what better way to do it than through family,” Juanes told Billboard. “I’m deeply honored to sing for Pope Francis.”

Executive director of The World Meeting of Families, Donna Crilley Farrell, said while choosing the performers, they wanted to “bring together performers that represented the world.”

“To have Andrea Bocelli, one of the world’s great vocalists, and Juanes, one of the most popular performers in all of Latin America, come to Philadelphia for the Festival of Families is an extraordinary gift,” said Farrell in a press release.

This will mark Pope Francis’ first visit to the United States since he began his papacy.
