LONDON, April 12 (UPI) — The West End productions of {i:A View From the Bridge} and {i:Sunny Afternoon} were the big winners at Sunday’s Olivier Awards ceremony in London.
{i:Bridge} was named Best Revival of a Play and its star Mark Strong Best Actor in a Play. The Best Director honor went to Ivo Van Hove, who helmed it.
{i:Sunny Afternoon} earned the accolades for Best New Musical, Best Actor in a Musical for John Dagleish and Best Supporting Actor in a Musical for George Maguire. Ray Davies was presented with the Autograph Sound Award for Best Score.
{i:Beautiful:The Carole King Musical} stars Katie Brayben and Lorna Want went home with the trophies for Best Actress in a Musical and Best Supporting Actress in a Musical for their respective portrayals of songwriters Carole King and Cynthia Weil.
{i:King Charles III} won the prize for Best New Play, while {i:The Play That Goes Wrong} was deemed Best New Comedy.
Penelope Wilton earned the Best Actress in a Play distinction for {i:Taken At Midnight}, Angela Lansbury won the Best Supporting Actress in a Play honor for {i:Blithe Spirit} and Nathaniel Parker scored the statuette for Best Supporting Actor in a Play for {i:Wolf Hall} and {i:Bring Up the Bodies}.
The ceremony at the Royal Opera House was hosted by Lenny Henry.
