Anna Paquin will not appear as Rogue in ‘Gambit’

LOS ANGELES, Sept. 29 (UPI) — Anna Paquin won’t appear as Rogue in Marvel’s forthcoming Gambit solo movie.

The 33-year-old actress revealed as much Sunday on Twitter by simply responding “no” when asked if she will star in the film. Paquin portrayed the character in X-Men, X2 and X-Men: The Last Stand.

Some expected the star to appear in Gambit because Rogue is a traditional love interest in the comics. Rogue, however, is linked to Iceman (Shawn Ashmore) in the X-Men movies, and Gambit’s love interest will be Bella Donna Boudreaux (Lea Seydoux) in the standalone.

Taylor Kitsch portrayed Gambit in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, with Channing Tatum slated to take over the role in Gambit. The movie is scheduled for release Oct. 7, 2016, but has yet to find a director following Rupert Wyatt’s departure this month.

Paquin is best known for playing Sookie Stackhouse on HBO series True Blood, which came to a close after seven seasons in 2014. She will voice Ramsey in upcoming Disney film The Good Dinosaur, and portray Nancy Holt in History’s forthcoming Roots miniseries.
