PARIS (AP) — Iraq’s foreign minister says the Nov. 13 attacks in Paris marked a new stage in a world war of international terrorism — one that no country can hope to escape.
In an interview Sunday with The Associated Press, Iraqi Foreign Minister Ibrahim al-Jaafari said the attacks on innocent people enjoying a night out were merely the latest example of the Islamic State group’s determination to sow fear by killing as many people as possible. A total of 130 people died and hundreds were injured that night in Paris.
Al-Jaafari, who spoke on the sidelines of international climate negotiations, said the decision by so many world leaders to attend the global conference was a sign of solidarity and trust for France. Now, he said, countries must take initiative against the group.
