Apple announces larger, faster iPad Pro

SAN FRANCISCO, Sept. 9 (UPI) — Apple’s Tim Cook announced the iPad Pro on Wednesday during the company’s September keynote at the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium in San Francisco.

Cook said the device has “the biggest screen on an iOS device” at 12.9 inches and “more power and performance than any iOS device.” By comparison, the most recent iPad Air is 9.7 inches on the diagonal.

The iPad Pro features 5.6 million pixels, more than a MacBook Pro with a retina display.

It also features an A9X 64-bit processor, with two times the memory bandwidth of its predecessor, the A8X. It features a battery life of 10 hours and will be compatible with the company’s new physical keyboard to be sold separately.

Additionally, Apple’s Watch Sport is now available in gold and rose gold finishes. Small versions of the watch in these finishes will be available for $349, and larger versions for $399. Sales begin Wednesday.

Apple is also debuting its Pencil, a “highly responsive” stylus with advanced technology that can measure “pressure, tilt and stroke.”

Cook was expected to announce a new iPhone model later in his keynote. The rest of the speech can be viewed on Apple’s website.
