RICHFIELD, Minn., Aug. 7 (UPI) — Best Buy became the first retailer in the United States Friday to sell the Apple Watch in a brick-and-mortar store outside the Apple Store and a select few exclusive boutiques.
The electronics giant began selling the smartwatch in 100 stores nationwide, with the goal to expand sales to 300 stores in the coming months. Already consumers can buy the watch on the Best Buy and Apple websites, but the move to the third-party national retailer means it will be available for immediate gratification.
“The Apple Watch is a big addition to our stores and website, and we know our customers want it,” said Jason Bonfig, senior category officer at Best Buy. “We are excited to bring the Apple Watch to more consumers, especially with the holidays coming up.”
Best Buy won’t have all of the different varieties of the watch in the stores, but it will have 16 popular models in the 38mm and 42mm sizes, along with a range of accessories.
The Apple Watch began appearing in Apple Stores and some high-end boutiques in July.
