SHARM EL-SHEIKH, Egypt (AP) — Arab leaders are meeting in a key summit in the Egyptian Red Sea resort of Sharm el-Sheikh, days after a Saudi-led, 10-nation alliance began a campaign of airstrikes against Iranian-backed Shiite rebels and their allies in Yemen.

Saturday’s summit was preceded by a meeting between Saudi Arabia’s King Salman, Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah el-Sissi and Yemen’s embattled leader Abed Raboo Mansour Hadi.

Hadi fled the Yemeni port city of Aden earlier this week in the face of a military push by the rebels, also known as the Houthis, and their allies, forces loyal to his ousted predecessor Ali Abdullah Saleh.

Of the Arab League’s 22 heads of state, 14 were in attendance Saturday as the meeting began.
