Arsenio Hall, Dave Chappelle to honor Eddie Murphy with Mark Twain Prize for American humor

WASHINGTON, Sept. 9 (UPI) — Arsenio Hall, Dave Chappelle and Kathy Griffin are just some among the slew of comedians set to honor Eddie Murphy with a performance in Washington, D.C. next month.

Murphy will be this year’s recipient of the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor at the Kennedy Center on Oct. 18. Past recipients of the prize include Jay Leno (2014), Whoopi Goldberg (2001) and Tina Fey (2010).

Other performers include Trevor Noah, Whitney Cummings, Chris Rock and several Saturday Night Live stars including Jay Pharoah, Kevin Nealon and Joe Piscopo.

“I am deeply honored to receive this recognition from the Kennedy Center and to join the distinguished list of past recipients of this award,” Murphy said after hearing he was this year’s honoree.

The ceremony will air on PBS stations Nov. 23 as Eddie Murphy: The Kennedy Center Mark Twain Prize.
