Artists to NYPD: Return Edward Snowden bust we put in park

NEW YORK (AP) — The mysterious artists who planted a bust of Edward Snowden on a Revolutionary War monument in a New York City park want the sculpture back.

The artists’ lawyer, Ronald Kuby, sent police a letter Tuesday demanding the return of the fiberglass-reinforced cement likeness of the exiled National Security Agency whistleblower.

Parks officials ordered it removed from the war memorial in Fort Greene Park April 6, hours after it appeared overnight. Police have said they’re holding it while investigating.

Police and parks officials haven’t immediately responded to inquiries Tuesday about the matter.

Kuby wouldn’t identify his clients, citing the police investigation.

They say in a statement that returning the statue would honor New York’s history as a place for free thinking.

A Manhattan gallery, Postmasters, hopes to display the piece.
