At least two dead in Louisiana movie theater shooting

LAFAYETTE, La., July 23 (UPI) — At least two people died and between six and eight were injured Thursday when a gunman opened fire at a Lafayette, La., movie theater, police said.

The Lafayette, La., Police Department said there were “multiple victims” in the shooting at the Grand Theatre.

The department issued a statement on Twitter saying it was “working a shooting.”

“Lafayette Police received the call at approximately 730 pm, shooting involves multiple victims,” the department later tweeted.

Lafayette City Marshal Brian Pope told The Daily Advertiser in Lafayette a gunman opened fire before turning the gun on himself. The gunman is reportedly dead.

Acadian Ambulance Service told NBC News two people died, including the gunman, and between six and eight people were injured.

Police said the shooting happened inside the movie theater.

Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal offered prayers for those involved in the shooting.

“I’m on my way to Lafayette right now. Please say a prayer for the victims at Grand Theatre and their families,” he tweeted.
