Audio of Durst in bathroom could play 2 ways in murder case

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Legal experts say Los Angeles prosecutors will have to be careful if they present damaging portions of an HBO documentary in the murder case against millionaire Robert Durst.

Defense lawyer Thomas Mesereau Jr. says the move could back fire as it did when interview footage was introduced at Michael Jackson’s molestation trial.

Mesereau was allowed to provide unaired interview segments that presented Jackson favorably to counter a damning documentary in which the pop star held hands with his accuser and spoke of letting children into his bed.

In the Durst case, prosecutors could seek to play portions from the documentary that concluded with the eccentric millionaire talking to himself off-camera in a bathroom with his microphone still live.

Durst’s lawyers say he didn’t kill Susan Berman.
