LINKOPING, Sweden, Sept. 30 (UPI) — The Austrian Federal Ministry of Defense has contracted Saab of Sweden to supply the Austrian Army with a new advanced training system.
The contract, valued at more than $23 million, includes Saab’s next generation of soldier training systems with new add-on equipment that will extend the Saab system currently in use and also Austria’s existing vehicle and anti-tank training systems.
“We continue to build on the success of our existing relationship with the Austrian army,” said Henrik Hojer, head of Saab’s Training and Simulation business unit. “For more than 15 years they have been using our system; they are an extremely far-sighted and experienced partner. Saab is delivering training systems to all of the armed forces in Europe and Austria is now able to enhance their multinational training activities.”
Deliveries of the system are planned from 2015 to 2018.
Saab’s live training systems are used by the United States, Britain, the Netherlands, Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Finland, Slovenia, Bulgaria, Estonia and Czech Republic.
