BRIDGEWATER, N.J., Oct. 29 (UPI) — Nearly a half-million Auvi-Q epinephrine injectors used to treat severe allergic reactions were recalled because they may not deliver the correct dose of the medication.
The recall includes all Auvi-Q injections on the market in the United States, or about 490,000 packs of the devices. Each package includes two injectors.
The device is used to treat severe allergic reactions, also known as anaphylaxis, as a result of insect bites, foods or medications.
Pharmaceutical company Sanofi US issued the voluntary nationwide recall Wednesday after it received 26 reports of malfunctions with the injectors in the United States and Canada. None involved patient deaths, the company said.
