NEW YORK, March 17 (UPI) — Azealia Banks hates the United States.
The 23-year-old rapper declared as much in an interview for the April issue of Playboy. Banks is well-known for her outspoken and often controversial remarks on Twitter, and told the magazine people dislike her because she is African-American.
“It’s always about race,” she said of her detractors. “Lorde can run her mouth and talk [expletive] about all these other bitches, but y’all aren’t saying she’s angry. If I have something to say, I get pushed into the corner.”
“I hate everything about this country,” she asserted. “Like, I hate fat white Americans. All the people who are crunched into the middle of America, the real fat and meat of America, are those racist conservative white people who live on their farms.”
Banks considers herself “loud and boisterous” and admires the same qualities in Jay Z. She named Pharrell Williams, Kendrick Lamar and Kanye West as performers who play “that nonthreatening black man [expletive],” and said Jay Z doesn’t seek approval from the white world.
Banks came to fame as Miss Bank$ and signed with XL Recordings at age 17. The recording artist released EP 1991 in May 2012, and debuted her first studio album, Broke with Expensive Taste, in November 2014. The record peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard Top Rap Albums.
