BALTIMORE, Jan. 23 (UPI) — The Baltimore Ravens have released backup nose tackle Terrence Cody after he was put under investigation for animal cruelty.
Cody has not been arrested but the Baltimore police have confirmed they are investigating an incident of animal cruelty against a dog.
“The Ravens announced Friday they will terminate the contract of nose tackle Terrence Cody after Super Bowl XLIX next Sunday,” the Baltimore Ravens said on their website. “Cody was set to become an unrestricted free agent on March 10.”
Cody was set to be released in a month anyway but his agent Peter Schaffer plans to fight the release if Cody is not picked up as a free agent.
“There was no animal cruelty,” he said. “If this affects at all my client’s ability to get a job, I’m going to do everything in my legal power to protect his rights.”
