New York (AFP) – Will Hill, a strong safety with four years of NFL experience, was released by the Baltimore Ravens on Wednesday just ahead of the league website reporting he faces a 10-game ban.

The NFL said Hill faces the ban for violating the league’s substance abuse policy.

That explained the Ravens signing safety Eric Weddle, agreed to a four-year deal on Monday worth $29 million.

Hill, 26, has a fourth substance abuse policy violation. He signed with the Ravens in 2014 after being cut by the New York Giants following his third violation and was suspended for six games in 2014.

The Ravens will save $3 million on the NFL salary cap by cutting Hill, who inked a two-year deal worth $7 million last year.

Baltimore went 5-11 in 2015, dropping four of the season’s last five games to end any hope at a playoff spot after having taken the 2013 Super Bowl.
