Barack Obama picks Kendrick Lamar tune as his 2015 favorite

WASHINGTON, Dec. 10 (UPI) — In addition to receiving the most Grammy nominations this year, rapper Kendrick Lamar is also President Barack Obama’s favorite.

Sharing with People, Obama and his wife, First Lady Michelle Obama, outlined their favorite music, movies and books of the year. While Michelle went with crowd favorite “Uptown Funk” by Bruno Mars and Mark Ronson, the President’s choice was Kendrick Lamar’s “How Much a Dollar Cost.”

The song comes off of Compton-born rapper Lamar’s popular album, To Pimp A Butterfly, and tells the story of his conversation with a homeless man — supposedly a drug or alcohol addict — who begged him for money. The song discusses how one compromises values for greed.

This year, Lamar has been nominated for 11 awards ranging from Album of the Year and Song of the Year to Best Rap Album, Best Rap Collaboration and Best Music Video. In second place for most noms, Taylor Swift and The Weeknd tie with seven award nominations.
