Biden praises Sanders on income inequality

WASHINGTON, Jan. 12 (UPI) — Vice President Joe Biden said Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT), I-Vt., has been doing a “heck of a job” on the campaign trail, drawing attention to the issue of income inequality.

“Bernie is speaking to a yearning that is deep and real. And he has credibility on it,” Biden told CNN on Monday.

When asked how Sanders’ chief opponent, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, was faring on the issue, Biden responded: “It’s relatively new for Hillary to talk about that,” adding that she has “come forward with some really thoughtful approaches to deal with the issue.”

Biden clarified his position in an interview with Today on Tuesday, saying that much of Clinton’s focus has been on issues of foreign policy.

Biden also said it was possible for GOP front-runner Donald Trump to win the White House.

Biden said he hopes Trump gets “a lot more serious about the issues.”

“I think he is divisive,” Biden said. “I think he’d have to acknowledge that he’s very divisive. That’s not healthy. We always do best when we act as one America. We always do best when we appeal to our better angels, and we always do poorly when we appeal to our fears and our differences.”
