Bill Murray pops out of cake for Letterman goodbye

NEW YORK, May 20 (UPI) — Bill Murray made an unforgettable entrance onto David Letterman’s second-to-last episode of the Late Show Tuesday night.

Murray, the show’s last scheduled guest, kicked off the festivities by popping out of a giant cake that read, “Goodbye Dave,” then hugged Letterman and smeared his face with icing.

Murray, 64, has a long connection with Letterman and the Late Show. The Royal Tenenbaums star was Letterman’s first-ever guest on NBC’s Late Night in 1982, when he promised to make Letterman’s life “a living hell.”

Murray was also Letterman’s first guest when the late-night host moved to CBS in 1993.

Letterman, who has helmed Late Night for 33 years, will host his last show Wednesday night.
