LOS ANGELES, Sept. 29 (UPI) — Bindi Irwin and boyfriend Chandler Powell made their red carpet debut as a couple Monday.
The 17-year-old Australian conservationist and 18-year-old American wakeboarder posed for photographs following Irwin’s latest Dancing with the Stars episode. The long-distance couple had reunited in Los Angeles over the weekend.
“It’s really nice to have that support,” Irwin told Entertainment Tonight. “I have my family, my mom and brother here with me, and then to have Chandler here as well … I think that love and support is just something we all need in life. We need those people to keep us going.”
“It’s awesome being here,” Powell told Us Weekly magazine. “Bindi is crushing it and I loved seeing the whole show! I loved seeing everyone dance. I expected her to do really well but she is exceeding my expectations! I am really proud of her.”
The couple first met in 2013, and share a love of animals and wildlife conservation. Irwin had revealed she is seeing “someone special” in July, and later told the Australian Daily Mail she is “lucky” to have Powell in her life.
Irwin and professional partner Derek Hough are tied with singer Tamar Braxton and Val Chmerkovskiy and singer Nick Carter and Sharna Burguess for the highest-scoring couple of the season. The teenager performed with a sore foot Monday, but told reporters she will “be totally good” soon.
