SYDNEY, Dec. 9 (UPI) — A California judge has finally approved Bindi Irwin’s paycheck for her appearance and ultimate win on Dancing With The Stars.
After being prompted to prove her father Steve Irwin’s death in order to get paid, Bindi Irwin was granted her hefty paycheck of $350,000 last week, TMZ reports.
Amid the paycheck issues, the 17-year-old starlet and Wildlife Warrior opened up about her relationship, or lack of relationship, with paternal grandfather Bob Irwin. Speaking with reporters at the AACTA Awards in Sydney Wednesday, the eldest daughter of the late Crocodile Hunter offered grace to her estranged grandparent.
“Everyone deals with grief differently,” she said. “When my dad passed away [my grandfather] chose to distance himself from everything that my dad loved the most.”
Irwin also revealed her grandfather also rejects occasional gifts from her family, saying they once sent Bob Irwin gifts for his birthday, that were opened and returned.
Days before the interview, Bob Irwin himself discussed the issue with the Herald Sun, telling the newspaper although he doesn’t speak with his grandchildren or daughter-in-law, he is still proud of what Bindi has achieved.
“It’s sad but it’s just the way things are,” he said.
