WASHINGTON, Dec. 29 (UPI) — Boeing has been given a $358 million contract to produce Precision Laser Guidance Sets for the United States and several foreign militaries.
Under the contract, Boeing will produce DSU-38 A/B PLGs for the U.S. Navy and the U.S. Air Force. The contract also includes Foreign Military Sales to the governments of Belgium, Turkey, Morocco, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates.
Boeing’s PLGS units will be used with the KMU-572 guidance sets to create the Laser Joint Direct Attack Munition system, which adds a laser seeker to JDAM-equipped bombs. This process gives the equipped bombs a laser seeking ability, enabling them to be used to engage moving targets.
Most of the work on the contract will be performed at Boeing’s facility in Fort Worth, Texas. Additional locations include facilities in Ohio, Missouri, South Carolina, Minnesota, and others.
Boeing will receive contract funds upon individual order deliveries as they are issued.
