Boeing tapped for three P-8A Poseidon aircraft

May 25 (UPI) — Boeing has been awarded a contract by the Defense Department for three P-8A Poseidon aircraft.

The deal was announced Thursday by the Defense Department in a contract worth more than $416.4 million under the terms of a modified firm-fixed-price contract.

The contract enables Boeing to manufacture and deliver three P-8A Poseidon multi-mission maritime aircraft for the Navy, according to the Defense Department.

The P-8A Poseidon is an anti-submarine and anti-surface warfare aircraft designed to work in conjunction with the MQ-4C Triton, an unmanned aerial vehicle, for maritime patrol operations, according to the Navy.

Work on the contract will occur across the United States, as well as the United Kingdom, and is expected to be complete in October 2020.

The total cumulative value of the contract will be obligated to Boeing at time of award from Navy fiscal 2018 aircraft procurement funds, which will not expire at the end of the current fiscal year in September, the Pentagon said.
