BOSTON, Dec. 15 (UPI) — Boston Special Weapons and Tactics police have embarked on a very special mission to find their missing feline mascot known as SWAT Cat.
The Boston Police Department posted to Facebook in hopes that someone had seen the stray calico cat, who had been missing for three weeks after serving as the department’s mascot for two years.
“This stray Calico kitty joined the BPD in 2013 when she began prowling around the Boston Police Special Weapons and Tactics base, rolling over for belly rubs from the officers, and showing up for chow time with the unit,” the post read.
SWAT Cat had been neutered and given a microchip thanks to department tailor Suesan Williams, leaving some hope that she might be found and returned to the station.
“You pull into the driveway and hope she will come running across the parking lot,” Officer Evon Burroughs told the Boston Globe. She had become part of the family. But it’s sad, she’s not there. It’s like going to work and not seeing a well-liked coworker.”
