Britain’s Andy Murray reaches Wimbledon semi-finals

LONDON, July 8 (UPI) — After over two hours of play Wednesday, Britain’s own Andy Murray will advance to this year’s semi-finals at Wimbledon.

Murray, 28, overpowered Canada’s Vasek Pospisil 6-4 7-5 6-4 and is now part of the last four to play for a spot in the Wimbledon final. The British player — who has made it to this point 6 times in 7 years — is scheduled to play Roger Federer Friday.

After coming close to being rained-out before a roof was pulled over the court, Murray won over Pospisil with a forehand shot past his opponent. After the match, he expressed his thoughts about the game: “I felt like I played some good stuff. [Pospisil] served extremely well for periods of the match,” he said, according to The Guardian.

“I changed my position a little bit at the end of the second set. It was obviously difficult. We were stopped a couple of times and came back under the roof, which is obviously different conditions. I hope I can get to another final but it’s going to be another tough one.”

If Murray makes it past his next opponent, Federer, this year will mark the second in a row that Murray advanced into the final at Wimbledon.
