LONDON (AP) — Is Britain getting a new princess? Prince Charles certainly hopes so.
The monarchy and royal fans worldwide are keenly awaiting the birth of Prince William and the Duchess of Cambridge’s second child.
Kate appears to be several days overdue — palace officials have said she was due to give birth in mid to late April. Dozens of journalists have been waiting for days outside a central London hospital for news.
Charles was chatting with a 100-year-old veteran at Windsor Castle Thursday when he brought up the royal baby.
Lynda Bateman, the veteran’s daughter, said Charles asked him how many daughters he had and then said “we’re hoping for a granddaughter.”
William and Kate say they don’t know the gender of the baby, a younger brother or sister to Prince George.
