Brooks Ayers felt relief over Vicki Gunvalson split

LOS ANGELES, Oct. 19 (UPI) — Brooks Ayers recently opened up about his split from The Real Housewives of Orange County star Vicki Gunvalson.

The businessman discussed the breakup in an interview with E! News to air Monday at 9 p.m. ET. He and Gunvalson were together four years, and Ayers admitted to feeling relief when they decided to end their relationship.

“I said, ‘Listen, we need some third-party help,’” he recalled. “So we began seeing, of all things, a reality TV couples counselor. We made the decision that we probably weren’t going to be for forever, and when I made that statement … it was like the piano was lifted off my back.”

Ayers also addressed his relationship with Gunvalson’s daughter, Briana Culberson. Gunvalson had cited the businessman’s conflicts with her daughter as one of the reasons for their split last week on Watch What Happens Live.

“She never gave me a chance,” Ayers said of Briana. “And one thing led to another and the first time I met Briana was the very night that she told her mom that she was married. I think that Briana had some significant issues as a child growing up with some ‘daddy issues.’”

Gunvalson has starred on The Real Housewives of Orange County since its premiere in 2006, and will appear on part 1 of the season 10 reunion Monday at 9 p.m. ET. Parts 2 and 3 will air Oct. 26 and Nov. 3 on Bravo.
