Bryan Singer to helm ‘20,000 Leagues Under the Sea’

LOS ANGELES, Sept. 18 (UPI) — Hollywood filmmaker Bryan Singer celebrated his 50th birthday by announcing his next project — a big-screen adaptation of Jules Verne’s 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea.

“It’s my 50th birthday (ouch), and I just put the finishing touches on the script for my next film,” Singer said in Thursday’s Instagram post.

“A story I’ve wanted to retell since childhood. I promise this will be an epic and emotional adventure for all ages! An adventure very dear to my heart. Not abandoning the #xmen universe. Very excited about #xmenapocalypse and beyond. #julesverne #20000leaguesunderthesea #nemo”

The message accompanied a photo of the cover page of the movie’s screenplay, which was penned by Rick Sordelet and Dan Studney. Singer also shared a story credit with the writers.

No casting or start date for the science-fiction flick were announced.

Singer’s movie X-Men: Apocalypse is set for theatrical release May 17, 2016.
