WALTON COUNTY, Fla., July 12 (UPI) — Aaron Kromer, offensive line coach for the Buffalo Bills, was arrested and charged with battery early Sunday morning in Florida.
Kromer is a accused of assaulting a juvenile — pushing a boy to the ground and punching him in the face — after the coach and his son found three boys using their beach chairs without permission.
The 48-year-old coach returned home late Saturday night to find the juveniles using his property. A confrontation ensured, during which Kromer allegedly threw the boys’ fishing pole into the water and proceeded to assault one of the juveniles. The victim’s age has not been release by police.
After demanding the chairs be returned to their original location, Kromer threatened the victim, reportedly telling the boy he would kill his family if he reported the incident to the police.
“We are aware of the report and in the process of gathering the facts,” the Bills said in a statement released by team officials on Sunday.
Police arrived on the scene and took statements from the boys before apprehending Kromer.
“Kromer was subsequently arrested early Sunday morning on a misdemeanor battery charge and transported and booked into the Walton County Jail. He has since been released on bond,” Walton County Sheriff’s Office (WCSO) said in a statement posted to Facebook.
Walton County Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer Corey Dobridnia told the New York Daily News that the charge of misdemeanor battery means the victim did not suffer permanent bodily damage.
“WCSO is continuing to investigate and additional charges may be filed,” the release statement reads. “WCSO executive staff will be reviewing this case first thing Monday morning when the redacted arrest report will be made available.”
Kromer spent the last two NFL seasons as the offensive coordinator of the Chicago Bears.
