C.J. Goodwin: Arizona Cardinals claim CB off waivers from Atlanta Falcons

Dec. 15 (UPI) — Cornerback C.J. Goodwin is now a member of the Arizona Cardinals.

Goodwin was claimed off of waivers from the Atlanta Falcons. The Cardinals also placed running back Adrian Peterson on injured reserve. The moves were announced on Friday.

Arizona also activated long snapper Aaron Brewer from the injured reserve/designated for return list.

Goodwin entered the NFL as an undrafted rookie free agent signing by the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2014. The 6 foot 4, 220 pound defensive back had 10 special teams tackles in 14 games last season with Atlanta. He also played in Super Bowl LI. Goodwin, 27, spent his rookie season on the Steelers’ practice squad.

He entered the league as a wide receiver, but switched to cornerback in 2015 with the Falcons. He spent the 2015 season with the Falcons’ practice squad. Goodwin will wear jersey No. 42 in Arizona.

Peterson will miss the rest of the season due to a neck injury. The Cardinals have Patrick Peterson, Tramon Williams, Justin Bethel and Brandon Williams listed at cornerback on the unofficial depth chart.

Cardinals safeties Budda Baker and Antoine Bethea did not practice on Wednesday and were limited on Thursday. They each got in full sessions on Friday are are expected to suit up for Week 15.

The Cardinals face the Washington Redskins at 1 p.m. Sunday at FedExField in Landover, Md.
