ST. LOUIS (AP) — Miguel Cabrera of the Detroit Tigers has hit his 400th career home run, a milestone that’s temporarily been delayed by rain from becoming official.
Cabrera connected for a solo drive in the first inning at St. Louis on Saturday. That would break a tie with Andres Galarraga for the most by a Venezuelan-born player.
The game at Busch Stadium was stopped in the bottom of the first because of rain. The Tigers and Cardinals waited out a delay of 1 hour, 20 minutes before resuming. If the game doesn’t at least reach the fifth inning, Cabrera’s home run would be washed away.
Cabrera’s 10th homer of the season came against Tyler Lyons was his fourth in three days.
The home run would be his 262nd with Detroit, tying Cabrera with Willie Horton for fourth on the franchise list.
On Friday, Adrian Beltre of the Texas Rangers hit his 400th homer.
