Campaign: Build wall around San Francisco during Burning Man

SAN FRANCISCO, Aug. 6 (UPI) — A tongue-in-cheek crowdfunding campaign is seeking to build a 300-mile-long wall to keep Burning Man revelers out of San Francisco.

The Cultivated Wit comedy group created a crowdfunding page on fictional website MegaGoGo — an IndiGoGo-style site billed as “the funding platform for large-scale infrastructure” — to promote the idea of building a 300-mile wall around San Francisco and the surrounding area during the Burning Man festival to keep attendees from returning.

“The week of Burning Man is the only week that the rest of us don’t have to hear about Burning Man. But what if that week could last forever?” the project’s spokesman says in a YouTube video promoting the campaign.

The project is seeking $7.3 million in funding, and claims to have already raised more than $2.1 billion. However, any attempt to “back this project” on the MegaGoGo page results in an error message:

“The volume of pledges has overwhelmed our system and we’re unable to process your pledge at this time. We’re attempting to fix the problem as quickly as possible but half our developers have taken advantage of our unlimited vacation policy to finish their LED mindfulness art car.”
