CHARLOTTE, N.C., Nov. 23 (UPI) — The Carolina Panthers have had such a successful, fun-packed season that coach Ron Rivera is dancing with joy.
On Sunday, after the Panthers beat the Washington Redskins 44-16 to move to 10-0, Rivera stole a page from quarterback Cam Newton’s playbook.
Rivera showed off his dabbing skills, exhibiting the dance recently popularized by Newton in front of his team.
Last week, when the Panthers beat the Tennessee Titans, Newton was criticized for doing the dance in the end zone.
“I think that’s a little rub-it-in-your-face type of deal, and there is a little code of ethics in the NFL and not a good move,” Titans coach Mike Mularkey told ESPN.
Newton also had Titans players get in his face after the dance, but he continued his celebration.
The quarterback was also the subject of a letter that a Tennessee mother sent to him, and the Charlotte Observer, regarding his conduct.
“As hard as this game is, and as difficult as it is and as entertaining as it is, it’s all a part of the entertainment,” Rivera said after the game.
Newton, 26, completed 21-of-34 passes for 246 yards and five touchdowns Sunday. This season, the Auburn product has completed 174-of-306 passes for 2,283 yards, 20 touchdowns and nine interceptions.
