Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton injured in crash

CHARLOTTE, N.C., Dec. 9 (UPI) — Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton was involved in a car crash near Charlotte. He was taken to a local hospital but is reportedly uninjured.

The crash happened on the Church Street bridge over Interstate 277 about 12:30 p.m. He was taken to a local hospital by ambulance.

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department told WBTV that Newton, 25, was not injured in the wreck and taken to the hospital as a precaution.

The Carolina Panthers said they are observing the situation.
