Chicago Cubs remove historic homer display

CHICAGO, Jan. 13 (UPI) — A home run hit by Kyle Schwarber, once immortalized in a plexiglass case above the Chicago Cubs’ video board, has been removed.

Schwarber hit the home run out of Wrigley Field in the Cubs’ Game NLDS 4 victory against the St. Louis Cardinals last October.

After the game, the ball was discovered, siting on top of the right field video board. The Cubs put the ball in a case and said it would remain there throughout the postseason. But months after the Cubs’ loss to the New York Mets in the NLCS, spokesman Julian Green told the Chicago Tribune that the ball is no longer there and “was removed sometime after the season.”

Schwarber, 22, hit 16 homeruns and had 43 RBI, with a .246 batting average in 69 games last season for the Cubs.
